The periodic pattern at the Timurid shrine of Khwaja Abdullah Ansari at Gazargah in Herat, Afghanistan (1425 to 1429 C.E.) is based on a periodic array of unit cells containing a common decagonal motif, the 10/3 star. This design can be constructed identically through either the traditional direct strapwork method or by tessellating underlying girih tiles.
